I had a weird habit in high school and college, due largely to the fact that I was always staying up late in bed studying or reading: I'd sleep in a space just large enough for my body, with piles of books, papers, and notebooks all around me. As you might imagine, this sort of habit isn't conducive to sharing your bed with someone ("Hey there sexy, want to spoon over this pile of newspapers?"), and so it went away, mostly. But after a nap the other day, I couldn't help but smile when I walked back into my bedroom. I've grown up some, but not much. File this one away with eating grad school-style garbanzo bean creations for lunch.
What's one of your old-school habits you still find charming - even if no one else does?

Sometimes we share such similar quirks that it slightly creeps me out. This bed-piling got so bad in high school that I slept for a period on the couch in the playroom (one of my est male friends remarked on this when he saw the couch now residing in my den. Morgan was confused, and I somehow averted the explanation and changed the subject). Law school was an intense period of living in my bed, laptop, legal pads, case books and chick-fil-a propped up all around me.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I would much rather peruse the Cornbread Nation on your bed than Torts!
This is so funny! Old habits die hard, I guess. As for me, I have the habit of changing into pajamas right after work -- I guess to properly make the transition from stuffy environment to relaxed one? Either way, it's a little bit weird.
ReplyDeleteIt's no shocker that you and Samma Faye are my bad habit soulmates. If I were to photography my bed right now it would have the following piled on it: 2 books (one text book, one novel) a laptop cord, a pile of clean laundry that needs to be folded an put away and 2-5 half full water bottles...
ReplyDeleteI don't remember what its like to sleep in a bed that wasn't filled with stuff.
What is that hanging up above your bed? I'm quite curious about it....
ReplyDeleteI have lots of habits. None of them are charming.
@Samma: You know I love me some Cornbread Nation!
ReplyDelete@Maddie: I think it's weird that my husband DOESN'T change as soon as he gets home from work.
@Wasp: Love it!
@Slynnro: Love this piece - it's from West Elm, they still sell it. I was looking for something metal and organic, and this fit the bill perfectly.
Hi! Do you mind posting the color of the wall in this picture? I've been looking for a color similar to this for my dining room for a while but haven't been able to pick a shade.
ReplyDeleteMy bed looks like that right now, as does the nightstand. It's a wonder I haven't been crushed to death.
ReplyDeleteI think nearly every meal I had at home in law school was eaten in bed. My entire existence for three years was in that bed. I ate there, studied there, slept there. I'm surprised I didn't develop bed sores. When I have the house to myself I still like to bring my dinner to bed.
ReplyDelete@ESB: No problem! It's Behr Powdered Brick. I LOVE this color. Serious, burning love. I bet it'd be great in a dining room!
ReplyDeleteFor the record - that load of laundry that was on my bed on the 5th... still there. Probably can't be counted as clean laundry anymore. MUST MOVE OUT OF PARENTS HOUSE.
