My hair is looong right now. I keep meaning to cut it, only A) I don't feel like paying for a haircut, and B) I don't have any haircut inspiration. In general, I like my hair in the summer - the humidity takes it from naturally wavy to pretty dang curly in a heartbeat, and so my disinterest in real styling (blow dry it? ha!) looks almost intentional. But it is summer, so all this hair can get hot. And while our apartment is littered with ponytail holders, it would be nice to have a look that's slightly more pulled together than black elastic when I need to get this mass of hair off my neck.
So. I found this video, and I was instantly smitten. "Messy Side Bun" is is, then!
(can't embed the video, unfortunately - but it's only a minute long and a snap to watch - go see!)
Now remember, I am lazy when it comes to hair. Using a hot instrument isn't my style. And since I have curls anyway, I skipped Step 1. Also, using a lot of bobby pins reminds me of prom, when you find them in your hair days later, so I just used a few strategic ones instead.
Making lazy hairstyles EVEN LAZIER... it's just what I do.
What do you think? Anyone else tempted to rock a Messy Side Bun, too?
PS: How much do I wish the Eastern European hairdresser who did my hair for my sister-in-law's wedding had watched this video instead of ordering an extra case of hairspray? Oh my.
LOVE, obvs. Have you seen those commercials for that Goody hair pin that is supposed to do the work of something like 87 bobby pins? WANT and NEED!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I think my brother's girlfriend has that - is it a twisty thing? She has hair like mine and was wearing it at the beach and it was amazing!
ReplyDeleteLove it. Looks effortless but elegant! Also loving the fabric behind you. Are those curtains or a shower curtain? Either way - super cute.
ReplyDeletemessy side bun has been my go-to for summer.. I was just thinking I'll probably fix my hair this way for my wedding, too.
ReplyDeleteM: The fabric is actually a re-purposed tablecloth from our wedding that's now a shower curtain! I just a did post about it that'll run next week on EADL.
ReplyDeleteH: PERFECT for a wedding! Love!
I got those things. Those Goody things. They are called "Spin Pins." Unfortunately, when you have fine slippery hair, they spin right in and spin right out. Fun to use though:). And I bet for hair with a little more texture they work well.
ReplyDeleteLOVE messy side bun! It's how I'm doing my hair for the wedding.
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! Can't wait until I have long hair again!
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE! Thanks for posting! This is definitely going to be a summer go to for me now. Perfect for those "I went to sleep with wet hair" mornings.
ReplyDeletei wish my hair was long enough to attempt something like it because just like you i don't feel much like using the blow dryer these days
ReplyDeleteSo I've been meaning to tell you this for a couple days but keep forgetting. I had a dream the other night after you posted this that I was going to do my hair like this, and did the three little ponies and then realized that I didn't have any bobby pins, so I just went out like that. Can't remember what happened after that... but... could you imagine? Ha!
ReplyDeleteI am going to try this tonight!
